Ziah Cooper

The Residential Summer String Camp is almost a second home for Ziah, having attended the camp every year since 2009, initially as a camper, and then as a tutor since 2017. Ziah is a tutor in Melaleuca Orchestra and runs the Celtic Fiddling program at the camp, drawing upon a rich tapestry of Irish, Scottish, Canadian, and Tasmanian folk music to bring to campers, young and old.

Ziah has spent many years performing with the gypsy band Frumious, a regular crowd favourite at the Cygnet Folk Festival (2015, 2016, 2017, 2019) and the National Folk Festival (2015, 2016, 2018). He now plays with his two brothers under the band name of Homebru, and they hope to tour in Europe when the world opens up again. Ziah studied violin in Hobart with Lucy Carrig-Jones (TSO) and also served as the concertmaster of the Tasmanian Youth Orchestra for several years.

Beyond music, Ziah is currently studying a Master of Teaching through the University of Melbourne, and he has a breadth of experience working as a camp counsellor in Canada and bushwalking guide in Tasmania. He brings his love of games, nature, songs, dancing, and storytelling to his role at the Residential Summer String Camp.
