After many years as LYCO treasurer and camps administrator, Virginia de Groot is retiring from the LYCO Committee.
The LYCO and RSSC boards wish to thank Virginia for her huge contribution over the years. With Virginia’s retirement from these positions there will be changes to the registration process. We hope to make the transition as simple as possible.
Membership and camp enquiries should now be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org.
While applications remain open after the 30th of November, there is a fee increase after that date. If you were planning to apply to the 2016 Residential Summer String Camp and have not yet done so, the remaining days of November are a good time to do so.
Application forms and other details may be found on the Apply page.
The 26th annual Residential Summer String Camp will run from 17th January 2016 to 23rd January 2016. The forms and information sheets have been added to the Apply page.
Returning campers will notice two changes to the fees this year.
First, managing special diets has necessarily become very complex for both the RSSC administration and Camp Clayton. From 2016 onwards (as for the 2015 LYCO Winter Orchestra Workshop), special diet requests incur an additional fee, based on the number of meals served. Specifics are on the fees page and application form.
Second, parents and older children will notice that fees since 2015 have increased relative to the adult fee. The costs the RSSC pays for accommodation, food and tutoring are no different between children and adults, so we have reduced the difference passed on to campers. Family rates and concessions will remain, and some bursaries will be offered for 2016. Details for those will be announced later.
The Residential Summer String Camp is not the only camp organised by the LYCO. There is also the Winter Orchestra Workshop. The 2015 workshop runs from 3rd July 2015 (Friday) to 5th July 2015 (Sunday).
This workshop is for full symphony orchestra (strings, brass, woodwind and percussion). There is just one orchestra, conducted by Willem van der Vis. The main work will be Felix Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 5 (“Reformation”). This should be suitable for all Freycinet and some Lemonthyme musicians. If you are uncertain whether the music will suit you, ask Margaret.
For further details and application forms, visit the Winter Orchestra Workshop page.
Due to the complexity of administering and preparing the meals, the 2015 Winter Orchestra Workshop has an additional fee for special diet requests. A similar fee will apply to the 2016 Residential Summer String Camp when applications open.
We apologise for the delay in having the application forms ready. We are grateful for the number of people who asked where they were. Now that they are ready, go to the Apply page to get started.
