2023 Winter Recordings
The 2023 Mid Year Concert and 2023 Winter Orchestra Workshop may be heard in the Galleries.
The main work of the 2023 Winter Orchestra Workshop was Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6. This has five movements, but the last three run together without a break:
- Allegro “Lustiges Zusammensein der Landleute” (“Merry gathering of country folk.”)
- Allegro “Gewitter, Sturm” (“Thunder, Storm”)
- Allegretto “Hirtengesang. Frohe und dankbare Gefühle nach dem Sturm.” (“Shepherd’s song. Cheerful and thankful feelings after the storm.”)
The track containing these three continuous movements is 21 minutes and 18 seconds long. This is the longest single stretch of playing in the LYCO’s archives. The previous longest was at the 2019 Winter Orchestra Workshop. There, the track containing the final two movements of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 runs for 15 minutes and 32 seconds.
As of July 2023, the shortest track in the LYCO archives is from the 2015 Mid Year Concert. The Piccolo Strings played from Stephen Chin’s Sixteen Sensations, with a performance of the seventh movement, Fairy Floss, completed in 31 seconds.

The 2022 Winter Concert is a recent addition there too, having only been edited the day before the End of Year Concert.
Composed and Conducted by LYCO Alumni
In 2019 the LYCO premiered Fraser Deeth’s composition “Timpani Waltz: or – why Timpani Don’t Play Waltzes”. Now the Tasmanian Youth Orchestra Sinfonietta have performed it, conducted by Angus Deeth (BMus (Hons)).

Audience seating is limited only by the capacity of the building, but please abide by current Coronavirus restrictions:
- Do not come if you have any cold/flu-like symptoms, or if you are supposed to be self-isolating
- Sign in with the Check in Tas app, or the registration sheet
- Sit in family groups, and/or keep 1.5m distant to each other if practicable
- Sorry, there will be no supper after the concert
Instructions to Members
Rehearsal Timetable for the 25th of June 2021
All rehearsals will be on the City Baptist Church stage. This means that only one orchestra will be able to rehearse at a time. Please arrive in good time for your rehearsal and leave the stage efficiently so the next orchestra can set up.

Instrument Cases
Upper Strings: to be left in the crèche area and/or pews directly in front of the crèche
Cellos and Basses: to be left at the back of the church on the opposite side to the crèche
Brass and Woodwinds: to be left in the store room (upstage right)
Music and Music Stands
Please bring your own music and music stand.
Concert Dress
Intermezzo: dark skirt/trousers, plain coloured t-shirt (with no lettering on it)
LSO: all black
(LSO members in Piccolo or Intermezzo can wear all black throughout the concert)
The 2021 Winter Orchestra Workshop Begins
If you have registered for the workshop, please make sure you have:

- Your own copy of the Sheet Music
As of Friday morning, the Ulverstone Forecast is for temperatures ranging from 1°C to 14°C, with a 60% chance of showers on Sunday afternoon.
