2016 Mid Year Concert

Highlights will include the Intermezzo Strings playing movements from Peter Warlock’s “Capriol Suite” and the Launceston Symphony Orchestra playing the Overture to “William Tell” by Gioacchino Rossini.

Frequent concert guests may recognise the “Sixteen Sensations” by Australian composer Stephen Chin. Pieces from this collection have appeared at the Residential Summer String Camp in 2012, 2015 and 2016, and the LYCO 2015 Mid Year Concert and 2015 End of Year Concert. At the 2016 Residential Summer String Camp, the Preludio Strings played the first sensation, “Gecko Echo”. Now, at this concert, the Piccolo Strings will for the first time perform the final two sensations, “Bubbles” and “Fiddle Stick Fury”.

2015 End of Year Concert

All three of of the LYCO’s constituent orchestras will perform at this concert: the Piccolo Strings, Intermezzo Strings and the Launceston Symphony Orchestra.

Highlights will include three movements from the ballet “The Seasons” by Alexander Glazunov and the combined orchestras playing the “Canon in D” by Johann Pachelbel.

Orchestra members may wait in the church between the rehearsal and the start of the concert.

Please bring your own music stand and a plate of food to share for supper.

Onwards

This concert signals the end of the year for the LYCO. There are no rehearsals in December or January. The first rehearsal in 2016 will be on Friday, the 12th of February.

2015 UTCMP Symphonic Band – Launceston Symphony Orchestra Concert

On the 19th of September 2015, the Launceston Symphony Orchestra from the LYCO will perform a join concert with the Symphonic Band from the University of Tasmania Community Music Programme.

This will be the first joint concert for these two ensembles since the Folk Songs to Finlandia Concert in 2013.

Concert dress is all black.

Please arrive by 7:15pm. As shown on the programme above, the UTCMP Symphonic Band will play first.

Please bring a plate of food to share for supper.

We may need to bring stands – this will be discussed on Friday.

The LYCO end-of-year concert for all LSO, Intermezzo Strings and Piccolo Strings players is on Friday the 28th of November at the City Baptist Church (our rehearsal venue).

Admission

Admission is free to members’ immediate families. For others, the admission fee is $5 per person, $10 for a family.

This concert signals the end of the year for the LYCO. There are no rehearsals in December or January. The first rehearsal for 2015 will be on Friday, the 6th of February.
